What happened?
Mikel Odriozola, assistant to Jaume Ponsarnau at Surne Bilbao Basket, is coaching Slovakia's U20 team this summer, with the goal of competing in the European Championship Division B from July 10 to 19 in Bratislava.
The Basque coach arrived at the position after a previous experience with Slovakia's U16 team. It all started two years ago, when he visited the country with the Euskal Selekzioa U20 team.
A team with room to grow
The preparation has not been easy. Injuries, illnesses, and some absences have conditioned the planning, but the coach maintains confidence in his group.

Looking ahead to Bilbao Basket
Although his attention is currently focused on Bratislava, the coach is not losing sight of the next season of Surne Bilbao Basket. After a historic season, he considers maintaining a large part of the team to be one of the best news of the summer.
The coach values the work done by Jaume Ponsarnau and Rafa Pueyo in building the team. We are very excited to start working again. We want to recharge a bit because the seasons are intense, but we have a lot of desire to return to Bilbao and have another exciting year, and why not, a little better.
What comes next?
First, he will compete with Slovakia at home. Then, he will return to Miribilla with new learnings, more international experience, and the excitement of facing a new project.
